A Women's Writing Retreat in Santa Barbara
The pure Tuscan light … the ancient hilltop towns … the food! Tuscany’s endless beauty serves as the backdrop for this immersive writing retreat.
Join me with a small group of like-minded women writers for a magical week in the heart of Italy. Together, we’ll explore the region, share our words, and grow as writers. You won’t just bring home a new passport stamp; you’ll return with a renewed writing practice, attainable next-steps, and a heart bursting with newfound inspiration.
In Santa Barbara, you’ll have the space to…
This retreat is designed to pluck you from the stresses of daily life and give your mind and body the time and space to truly relax. How? By taking care of your every need — from the well-appointed rooms at the villa to the home-cooked Italian meals. Each day intentionally allows for downtime to recharge and simply be. When you’re being gentle with yourself, you’ll be amazed at how much your creativity ignites, and your desire to write grows.
You’re coming to Italy! When you aren’t writing, I want you to experience Tuscany. In our time together, we will sidestep the tourist hot spots and immerse ourselves in the true beauty of our surroundings. Each of our excursions is highly curated, with a focus on less-traveled, yet equally-beautiful locales — think small wineries, narrow lanes, and authentic hill towns. I spent years living in Florence and exploring this region, and cannot wait to share it with you.
These are generative writing retreats, which means you’ll have the freedom to follow fresh ideas and deepen existing ones as you create new work. Each day, we’ll explore a new facet of your writing, including plot, character, dialogue, and more — all designed to help you discover and embrace your unique vision. You can look forward to morning (and some afternoon) workshops, and shared dinners to keep the creative conversation going.
A typical writing retreat day in Santa Barbara
Each morning, you’ll get up and follow the scent of freshly baked pastries to an abundant and healthy breakfast.
Then, you’ll get comfy for a 3-hour group writing session.
Following lunch (al fresco when the weather permits), we might take a guided tour of nearby towns, historical sights, and the surrounding countryside, or you can enjoy personal writing or relaxation time.
You’ll have additional writing sessions on several afternoons during the week.
After enjoying a 3-course dinner (if you’re not out enjoying local entertainment and wine), we’ll gather informally to share your work and reflect on the day.

What other questions
can I answer?
Of course! Our villa is in the heart of Tuscany and is surrounded by olive trees and grape vines. Here, you’ll have ample space and amenities to relax and recharge. Explore a gallery of images from the villa and surrounding area HERE →
Ah, imposter syndrome; it’s a sneaky monster. No matter where you are on your writing journey, we all wrestle with it. The women writers joining me in Tuscany for this retreat are at every stage of the writing journey, some with initial ideas and others with drafts in hand. But no matter where you are in your creative process, we’re all on the same page when it comes to supporting one another and fostering a safe and encouraging environment.
If you happen to have a draft in progress, by all means, bring it along, but it’s not required. I encourage everyone to remain open to the possibility of new ideas and to follow the creative flow in whatever direction it takes you. This retreat is generative, which means you’ll have many opportunities to explore new directions and create fresh work.
The retreat is intentionally designed to allow you time to rest (what a concept!). The day will be portioned out into writing time, workshops, free time, excursions, and meals together. You can expect to visit artisanal shops, tucked-away wineries, vibrant hill towns, and local trattorias when you’re not dining at the villa. Get a sense of a typical day HERE →
Yes, I give retreat participants the option to pay in several different ways. It’s important to me that all writers have access to these transformational retreats, so I recommend reaching out to learn more about payment options. Inquire HERE →
I’m excited too! I look forward to my time in Italy every year, and building relationships with fellow women writers inspires my own writing practice. The first step is to fill out the inquiry form, where you’ll book a Discovery Call with me so I can answer all your questions. Once you’ve confirmed your interest, I’ll send you the registration and payment information. Along the way, I’ll share more about what to expect on the retreat, and all the details about arrival times and transportation. In the meantime, start getting inspired by reading books set in Italy (my novel, “The Gilder,” is available on Amazon) or watching some Italian movies. See you in Tuscany!
The question is not if you have a writer within
The question is how can you set her free
I hope you’ll join me in Tuscany and say YES to your writing life.
